ORTAKOLL HOUSE 2

O2 House is in a typical suburb of Prizren. The neighborhoods were designed by the town planning service in the former Yugoslavia. Most houses were enlarged during the post-war years. In general, the environment is ugly and without interest, although from an urban point of view, this neighborhood has more order than in the informal neighborhoods of Prizren. The initial idea of the house was to close it to the immediate environment and open it to the distant landscape, towards the nature that surrounds Prizren.  Therefore, O2 House is a house with unconventional vertical organization. The upper floor (second) is a living room with terrace, the ground floor is the entrance and a commercial space while the middle, intermediate floor, contains the bedrooms and a small apartment with independent entrance. The relation between the living room floor and the ground floor is achieved by placing two pairs of stairs in a straight line, right in the middle of the building. Thus the entrance hall to the ground floor has direct vision with the living room two levels higher. The space between the two stairs expands to create entrances to the bedrooms and the bathroom. Two sky openings illuminate this area. The living room with the kitchen occupies the entire third level, with a large terrace to the south, from where you can see all the geographical attractions of Prizren, Shari mountains with the city castle, Pashtriku and Koritnik to Albania and far to the west the Bjeshkët e Nemura mountain range. This space is divided in two by the main access stairs and the roof-terrace stairs above. The kitchen is designed next to the open fireplace with a corner window and a central table.

O2 house is made of concrete exposed from the outside and partially inside, the other covering and partition walls are whitewashed with lime. Concrete functions as protection from the outside environment while inside whiteness creates a softer environment for life. Two visible vertical channels integrated into the concrete walls, remove water from the large terrace and flat roof. The water reaches a canal that surrounds the house and can be used for irrigation. Construction of the house was halted in 2007.
