HOUSE ORTAKOLL 1

The house is located in the Ortakoll neighborhood, urbanized in the ‘70s and’ 80s. Two rows of houses mainly with ground floor and two floors and sloping roofs, were built in front of an area with three residential housing towers with 8 floors. The project is a thorough transformation and enlargement of one of this row houses, built in the 90s but never completed. The entire second floor and partially the first floor of the existing house, without a basement, have been removed. The house has a courtyard with access to the west and a small garden to the east. The facades express the spaces behind them. The southern façade has larger openings because it illuminates the main spaces, while the eastern façade has smaller openings and mainly secondary spaces and acting as a protection from the High rise housing in front . The transformed house has an independent workshop on the ground floor. Independent staircases led to the first floor rooms, then to the living room with kitchen on the second floor. The second floor also has a mezzanine with a bridge leading to the west terrace. The living space is the culmination of the program. In it the spaces dilate in all directions. In addition to the openings to the east through the kitchen there are windows to the west, the double central space is also illuminated from the terrace above. Thus the house possesses great spatial richness inside while maintaining modest expression from the outside.
